CB1’s programme for public art over the years has resulted in an exciting high quality public realm for residents and users of this important new city centre location. Here we showcase some of those art works that have helped shape the public art programme that we have today.

Jem Finer - Supercomputer

Supercomputer’ was a sculpture that engaged the public, sited in a new public park. A functioning hydraulic ‘computer’ made from a series of beautifully constructed and designed pipes, it will be enclosed in a glass fronted pavilion, similar to the mainframe computers of the 1970’s.

‘Supercomputer’ played instruments incorporated in the structure, turning the computer into a composing calculator creating new compositions over a 179 year period. This piece was commissioned by Hill.

Jem Finer has worked in a variety of fields, including photography, film, installation and experimental and popular music.

Jacqueline Poncelet - Ripple
