The Cambridge Book Bench Trail
Following on from the highly successful Cows about Cambridge Trail, Cambridge BID and Wild in Art have now brought 12 fabulously designed Book Benches to the city. CB1 is host to ‘Lemur Conspiracy’ by Caroline Coates.
Lemur Conspiracy in CB1 was designed by Manchester artist, illustrator, and craft tutor Caroline Coates, who has created works which have been displayed across the UK from Salford to Sheffield. Caroline has been an artist for 25 years, and her Book Bench in Cambridge is part of her commitment to getting people engaged with public art.
The artwork celebrates the ring-tailed lemur – now an endangered species, facing habitat loss in their home of Madagascar. This bunch might look like they’re up to some mischief – the collective name for a group of Lemurs is a ‘conspiracy’.
These colourful, life-sized benches are all designed by different artists, creating an exciting trail throughout the city. The programme has been organised by Cambridge BID and Wild in Art, with funding from Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority via Cambridge City Council.
The sculptures will be on show over the summer – you can find out more about all 12 benches and download the map of the trail from Love Cambridge.
